Gingerbread Latte

A warm and comforting latte, perfect for sweater weather.

As the snow starts to fall and the world outside becomes a winter wonderland, we turn to the comforts of home and all the coziness and warmth it has to offer. Gingerbread cookies have long been a seasonal staple, as the snap of ginger and molasses sweetness create a rich flavor that keeps spirits high. Inspired by these flavors, we've created a warm and comforting latte, perfect for seasonal get togethers! This recipe features fresh ginger, brown sugar, warming spices, and espresso to create a balanced cup of holiday cheer.

Gingerbread Syrup
Ingredients...
  • 2 cups water
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • ½ tsp ground allspice / 8 allspice berries
  • ¾ tsp ground cloves / 6 whole cloves
  • 65g fresh ginger (peeled and sliced)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions...
  1. In a wide medium-sized saucepan, bring the sugar and water to a boil, stirring  occasionally.
  2. Once boiling, reduce the heat and add the spices and ginger.
  3. Simmer for about 20 minutes, until the syrup is infused with spices.
  4. Strain the spices and ginger and pour into a sterilized bottle. Store in the fridge, with a sealed lid. If stored properly, it can last up to 2 weeks.
Notes...
  • Gingerbread syrup should have a similar consistency to maple syrup.
  • This recipe should yield about 2 cups of syrup. Keep in mind that the longer the syrup simmers the more water evaporates which could lead to a smaller yield.
