The Stile is designed to help you make the best use of your precious countertop real estate, with a compact footprint of just 5 by 5 inches.
The hopper holds up to 300g of coffee with a lid that doubles as a grounds tray.
When you’re ready to change out your coffee or clean the hopper, just pull the shutter and remove the self-standing hopper assembly.
The front panel features an upper portafilter clip and a lower support fork, resulting in super simple hands-free grinding. The support is also height adjustable for various portafilter sizes, or it can be removed completely to fit a dosing cup.
The Stile OD features a touchscreen interface with simple navigation, additional menu items, and easy to adjust recipe pre-sets. When you first turn on the Stile, the first screen you’ll see is the Rancilio logo. Swipe left to get started. This is the home screen that you’ll see when the grinder is in use.
The Stile offers two dose activation options: Micro and Microless. You can switch dose activation modes by swiping left to get to the User menu.
Micro refers to the micro button. This means that when the Stile is in Micro mode, dose activation starts when the portafilter is inserted and presses against the micro button.
Before inserting the portafilter, you can choose between the two programmed presets or the continuous grinding option.
If you remove the portafilter while a programmed dose is in progress, that dose will be paused. You can reinsert the portafilter to resume or press the continuous button to cancel.
On the other hand, Microless doesn’t use the micro button. Instead, grinding is activated by selecting an option on-screen- either one of the two presets or continuous grinding.
Tap the continuous button to pause your dose. You can tap the continuous button to resume or tap the preset option again to cancel.
Grinding presets can be programmed in the user menu, where you can adjust the time coffee is ground in seconds. To do so, swipe to the left to enter the user menu, and press “Dose Time.” Here you can select the preset you would like to program and use the plus and minus buttons to input your desired time.
The Stile is a stepless grinder that allows you to continuously adjust the grind size by spinning the grind adjustment wheel.
On the right side of the grinder, you can see a numeric reference on the adjustment wheel and degrees between them. You’ll also feel and hear clicks as you spin the adjustment wheel. The grind size can be set at any point in the range and doesn’t necessarily need to line up directly with the reference marks or clicks on the wheel.
To make grind size adjustments, use both hands to spin the grind adjustment wheel. Spin the grind adjustment wheel counterclockwise to grind finer, and clockwise to grind coarser.
If you need to make the grind significantly finer, it’s best to do so while the grinder is running and with coffee in the grind chamber.
It is possible to grind too finely, too, so aim for a consistency similar to flour to prevent clogging.
Let’s check out some of the options in the User Menu.
The first option allows you to set the operating system language.
Selecting “Dose Time” will allow you to adjust your dosing presets. Tap the preset you want to edit and use the + and – buttons to adjust.
Under “Counters”, you can see how many times each preset has been used. These are referred to as partial counters because they can be reset below.
And of course, this is where you would switch between dose activation modes.
From the User Menu, you can swipe left again to access some additional menu items.
Under “Total Counters”, you can see the full record of how many times each preset has been used, even after you reset the Partial counters in the User Menu.
The Screen menu option allows you to adjust the screen brightness. You can also turn the screensaver function on or off, as well as input the amount of time it takes for the screensaver to pop up.
Under “Grinders”, you can see the burr lifespan recommendation that is set to 70 hours by default.
The “Version” option shows the operating system’s software details.
“Reset” allows you to perform a factory reset to return to the Stile’s original settings
The “Password” option gives you the ability to password-protect the setting menu items. You can turn this feature on and off as well as set a 4-digit password.
